Growing up, Omar and Abdi shared a deep passion for soccer, playing whenever they could and dreaming of becoming professional players despite significant challenges. Raised in a household that emphasized hard work, self-belief, and community giving, they learned the value of dedication and perseverance early in life.
Omar achieved his dream in 2016 when he signed with FC Cincinnati, earning the opportunity to play in his home state of Ohio. Abdi, after excelling at the University of Akron, was selected 43rd overall in the MLS SuperDraft by NYCFC and led his team to the College Cup Final. Both credit their success to the unwavering support of their family, the encouragement of friends, the opportunities provided by their community, and the belief of coaches who recognized their potential.
Despite their personal accomplishments, Omar and Abdi remained deeply connected to their roots and aware of the obstacles many young people in their communities face. Understanding the transformative power of soccer and education, they founded 18x26 Academy in 2020 to create opportunities for others to succeed.
18x26 Academy offers more than soccer training—it’s a platform for developing life skills like teamwork, leadership, and resilience. The academy also provides academic assistance and mentorship, ensuring students thrive both on the field and in their future careers.
Omar and Abdi remain actively involved in the academy’s programs despite their demanding schedules. Their dedication to giving back and transforming young lives through soccer and education serves as an inspiration to all, proving that with the right support and determination, dreams can become reality.
